Raymond Msharasha, often known as Ramson, is an African artist who was born in Dodoma, the capital of Tanzania.
When Ramson was two years old, life in the city became too difficult for his family and so he was sent to live with his grandmother in a remote cultural village. Here Ramson was able to pursue his primary education.
It was at school that Ramson´s passion for art was ignited. After drawing figures of local football players and trading them to his classmates for food, he recognised that his simple drawings were providing him with something to survive. With this extra motivation Ramson worked hard to develop his art skills.
After finishing secondary school and refining his art skills Ramson moved to the Island of Zanzibar in the hope of finding more opportunities to provide for his family, using his love for art. The first few years were difficult but Ramson persevered and finally managed to run a successful business selling his art work. His biggest income came from the tourists and other local shop owners in the tourist village of Nungwi.
A lot of Ramson´s art work reflects the struggle of women and children in Africa, after growing up in a male dominated world, with a single grandmother. He also enjoys painting maasai, a popular tribe in east Africa as well as animals.
In 2011 Ramson immigrated to Norway and went to language school. It was here that he had the opportunity to learn about famous artists and visit different art exhibitions. This inspired Ramson to continue and further develop his art skills.
Currently Ramson is working in a nursery where he is sharing his passion and love for art with the children.

Raymond Msharasha, més conegut com a Ramson, és un artista africà nascut a Dodoma, la capital de Tanzània.
Quan Ramson tenia dos anys, la seva família es va veure obligada a enviar-lo a viure amb la seva àvia, a un petit poble dels afores, a causa de la manca d’accés als recursos a les grans ciutats i la dificultat per sobreviure-hi. Allí, va ser on Raymond va poder finalitzar la seva educació primària.
Ja a l’escola, la passió de Ramson per l’art es va començar a albirar. Arran de dibuixar figures de futbolistes locals i intercanviar aquests dibuixos amb els seus companys per menjar, es va adonar que aquests simples retrats l’estaven proveint d’una oportunitat per sobreviure. I, amb aquesta dosi de motivació extra, va treballar durament per millorar les seves habilitats artístiques.
Després d’acabar la secundària i perfeccionar la seva tècnica, Msharasha va mudar-se a l’illa de Zanzibar, un indret turístic on trobaria noves oportunitats per poder mantenir i ajudar a la seva família, tot dedicant-se a la seva passió. Els primers anys van ser difícils, però Ramson va perseverar i finalment va establir-se dirigint un exitós negoci venent el seu treball artístic. Els seus principals clients eren els turistes i els propietaris d’altres negocis locals al poble turístic de Nungwi.
A l’any 2011, el seu art li va oferir l’oportunitat de descobrir altres fronteres, traslladant-se a Noruega, on va poder aprendre sobre altres artistes i visitar diferents exhibicions artístiques. Amb aquest món de noves possibilitats, la nova experiència va inspirar Ramson a continuar desenvolupant les seves habilitats artístiques més enllà del que coneixia fins al moment, enriquint-se amb noves tècniques i fonts d’inspiració.
Actualment, Raymond està treballant en una guarderia a Noruega a on comparteix la seva passió i amor per l'art amb els nens, desenvolupant projectes educatius utilitzant la part més creativa dels més petits.
La majoria de l’obra de Ramson reflecteix la lluita diària de les dones i els nens a l’Àfrica, reflex de la seva experiència vital creixent en un món dominat per homes i criat per la seva àvia. També tenen cabuda, en el seu ventall pictòric, els retrats de maasai – popular tribu de l’est de l’Àfrica –, així com la fauna local.
